Greece is on England’s quarantine-free countries “travel corridors”
Greece has finally made it to the quarantine-free list of countries “travel corridors” allowed to England. The list was published by the UK government on Friday afternoon.
The full list entitled “Travel Corridors” refers to countries for which 14-day quarantine will not apply to people arriving back in England or for travelers to England.
Countries including Greece, Spain, France and Belgium are on the list, which comes into effect from 10 July, 2021.
According to the gov.uk website, “from 10 July 2020, unless they have visited or stopped in any other country or territory in the preceding 14 days, passengers arriving from the following countries and territories will not be required to self-isolate on arrival into England.”
To include Greece on the quarantine-free list is a surprise and most probably result of diplomatic efforts, considering the fact that earlier on Friday, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps had announced that Greece would not be on the list because the country had banned direct flights from/to UK until July 15.
According to BBC, countries such as China, US, Sweden and Portugal are not, meaning arrivals from those have to isolate for 14 days.
Scotland and Wales are yet to decide whether to ease travel restrictions and described the changes as “shambolic,” BBC notes.
The rule will also remain in place in Northern Ireland for visitors arriving from outside of the UK and Republic of Ireland.
The restrictions came into place in early June in a bid to stop coronavirus entering the country as the number of cases was falling.
